Is This Just Too Much?

What would you think if you saw this? A friend from the baby center website sent this to me while I was pregnant and I thought it was very nice of her. With RSV and Flu season coming we really can't have Bennett getting sick with his heart and all. Most adults know not to touch without washing their hands but it's the kids that don't and you know how kids are, they come running up and before their mom can say "Stop! Don't touch the little baby!" it's too late. Maybe this little sign will stop them and they'll ask what it is. What do you think? Am I being too neurotic here or what? I know he's my baby and I shouldn't really care what others think but well, I do. ;)

  1. I think that is an awesome idea...I love it... there is no such thing as too much caution seriously!! I have found that Adults are much worse than little kids,it amazes me at the amount of strangers that just want to touch my kids, and it really bothers me, and I never want to hurt anyones feelings but I think please don't rub on my child, I don't know were your hands have been nor do I know the last time you washed your hands, seriously the number of women that come out of the bathroom and don't wash there hands nasty!!!I think it is such a great idea. People will just have to understand

  2. Nothing is too much when it comes to keeping the germs away from your gem!

  3. We have one of those, and I just mailed an extra one to a friend. (All the babies who get synagis shots in the fall/winter have them!)
I think it's a great idea--you can never be too careful with our heart babies! :)

  4. Not neurotic at all - your job as Mama is to make sure he stays healthy. Plus his situation is a bit different. People without infants or a child with a low germ tolerence just don't think about these kinds of things. I would rather see the little sign and remember to wash my hands than touch him without washing and possibly get him infected with something. Keep it! ;)

  5. Great idea!!!!!!! I think I'll get one and clip it to the front of Ruby's shirt when we go to church ;)

  6. I think its a great idea. When Carly was on chemo., we had a sign hanging on our back door that said, "If you aren't feeling well, please call again. Carly's immune system is low today. Thanks"! Then we also had a sign upon entering our house that said, "Please wash hands or use the hand sanitizer. Thank you"!
One can never be too careful.

  7. I think it's a good idea, especially if there's a chance strangers would touch your baby. I find that when we're around friends, who are also parents, they usually know to wash first, but it's the little school aged kids that don't think about it.

  8. I don't think it's too much at all, you have to do all you can to keep your guy healthy! We always had the rule in our house that the little ones could only touch the baby's feet and not hands at all (whether theirs were washed or not). Of course, that only works until the kid can put his feet in his mouth, but it buys you some time and is a lot better than saying "Don't touch the baby!" at all. :)

  9. LOVE it! I was thinking of hanging a bottle of hand sanitizer on the front door handle :)

  10. We have one of those too, but somehow the people we run in to don't notice or don't care. So, now on the rare occassion when Lil Man gets to go out, we put one of those mosquito covers or a rain cover over his stroller (One Step Ahead). Now, if we could just find something like that for his wheelchair! LOL!

  11. It's not too much at all...and who cares what people think! It's what's best for Bennett and that's all that matters. You'd be surprised how many adults actually *don't* know not to touch a baby without washing their own hands. It's not just kids you have to worry about!

    I think it's a great idea!!

  12. i think it would be a little offensive. i know that you need to be extra cautious and all but i would take that as a little snotty. plus...some kids who like to touch little cute babies can't even read.

  13. My son was a preemie and had to have the synergis (sp?) shot for this lungs as well and his pulminologist office gave us this sign too. I LOVED it!!! It made the biggest difference because when we were in Wal-Mart of where ever the sweet little old ladies that mean well but want to kiss all over them just look. I loved it so much that I now give them as Baby gifts and everyone loves them!

  14. So for the most part everyone like it. For the person that thought it might be a little offensive- thank you for your opinion! I do realize most kids that like to touch can't read but I'm was hoping the sign would just make them stop and say hey, what's that and then I could explain nicely that oh you just need to make sure your hands are clean before touching the baby. And then hopefully they would just not want to touch him at all after that!:)

  15. I think that the only thing that will stop people would be a cover over the baby. I think the signs are a bit much. Just like I think the covers over shopping carts and highchairs are a bit much.

  16. you can never be too cautious. What so many people don't understand is that our babies can't always fight little things off like "typical" children such as colds and germs. And you know what if people don't like it too bad it is your baby :) (too harsh? lol)We got one of these signs last year when William had his synagsis shot (to prevent RSV)and hooked on it was a small bottle on antibacterial stuff. I put one on his stroller, the kids (especially during football season) know they can use it. It was a little harder since william was all over but he was in the stroller still. I loved my sign dont feel over precautious

  18. I really like it but I think it would be nice if it also said something first like "I'm a heart baby, please wash you hands before...". Then people understand that there is a special circumstance. But all in all, you are the mommy and being careful is up to you, don't worry about offending people.

  19. I think when they ask and you explain that he just had heart surgery that everyone should understand. No one should be offended by it anyway. It's not rude at all. Like you said--- he's your baby--- you're just trying to protect him. People should teach their kids--- like I do my grandkids--- to ask if they can touch the baby. If the parent says yes, then I tell them to touch their little foot so they won't give the baby germs. =)

  20. I love it! I'd like one that says STOP! DONT TOUCH ME! I hate strangers touching my babies. :)

  21. For a child that has no health issues I think it is a bit much. It strenghtens the immune system to be exposed to all the different bugs and viruses, even though we hate to see them sick. But for a medically fragile child you can't be too careful and I think the sign is a great idea. Who cares if someone thinks you're a bit neurotic. It's your child and you know his issues and should do whatever you feel you can to protect him.

  22. Honestly...I don't care if I offend someone! Lily's health is much more important to me than someone's feelings. What actually offends me is strangers who reach out and touch my child when we are out in public. I would never touch someone's child!!!

Will Bennett's cardiologist be recommending Synagis? If he/she hasn't I would ask about it and try to get it.

  23. i love it. thats a great idea, it seems max gets sick anytime he is around anyone with an illness, what a great thought, thanks

  24. It's a lot less offensive than having to actually tell someone out loud. I had lots of people asking where I got ours.

Oh, and Bennett definitely qualifies for RSV shots. Heart surgery seals the deal.

  25. Love it. I think it is great. I need one for my buggy. I have a sign posted at our front table with a bottle of hand sanitizer. It is a short sign written from the viewpoint of Wysdom talking about not wanting to get sick and go back into the hospital. My therapists all wash their hands now or sanitize. Trust me you don't want little Bennett to get RSV)(Wysdom got it a 2 months and it's nasty)

  26. I would TOTALLY hang that sign on our carseat carrier if I would have known where to buy it! Althoughmost adults know not to touch a baby, some still get in their face and talk, etc. or grab their hands to say hello. Reason enough for me to hang a sign! I think you should. :)

  27. As a new mother to be.... I would love to have one! I am in panic mode over people wanting to touch the baby without wawshing their hands. I know they need to build up immune systems, but I want to give her time to be healthy!

  28. Hey Adrienne-

I am glad you guys are doing well and made it throught the surgery. He is one tough little guy for sure! I had a little thing of hand sanitizer clipped to Liam's carrier. It was really for my kids and to be accessible but now that I think of it may be a good reminder for others too. It is getiing ready to be that germy time of year again and I know I am dreading it even without an infant.

  29. That's great! I wish I had that when Matthew was little. Can't be too careful about keeping germs away.
On a side note, I'm glad that my post about the care notebook and developmental journal idea was helpful to you. :-)

  30. We totally have one of those and used it all last year. The funny thing though is the kids would see it but it's the old ladies, the grandma's who would reach right past it and touch Sam. I was like, your kidding me??? So, watch out for the old ladies. :-))

  34. I have the same little sign for my sons carseat. He was born 7 weeks early last November at 3lbs 9oz, he had to get his monthly RSV shots and I did everything I could to prevent him from getting sick. He is now over 19 lbs at 9 months, and I still wash my hands all the time-- Ive drilled that into my husbands head too-- and I even wash my sons hands if alot of people have been holding him. It is his health you are protecting.
