Last night while I was getting dinner ready and Mike was spending time with Bennett (he got back in town yesterday-yay!) we heard a very loud thud from up stairs. I looked at him and then ran. Crying came from Harper's room (well technically Bennett's room but she is still in the crib) and yes, she climbed out and I believe she fell on her head-onto carpet thankfully. Or at least her face because there was a bright red mark on her forehead. She has never attempted this and I've been dreading the time that she actually figured it out, however I'm pretty sure since she kinda got hurt, she won't be doing it again. I hope!
She cried for a bit but was fine and I told her she could not do that again and she just said in a pitiful baby voice "okay mommy". I'd like to keep Harper in the crib until after Bennett's surgery because I foresee putting her in her bed a disaster so we shall see if she tries this again. I must say I was stunned because although she climbs on everything else she's just never really tried that-jumping yes but not climbing. Nap time could possibly become torture...
She very likely could try it again!! You know kids...they do something until they master it. The good news is that she will get good at it. I think I have heard of people lowering the side of the crib so they won't possibly get hurt climbing out but they are still in the comfort of the crib. LOVE the picture of Bennett with Daddy in you header!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Don't you just hate sounds like that??I hope she doesn't do it again!
ReplyDeleteAh! Cassidy tried escaping from her crib ONE time - that's all it took! I think it just scared the poo out of her! She will be three in October and is still in her crib!! Im too scared to mess with a good thing! : )
ReplyDeleteThis happened when Bridget was around 2 1/2 (she's really short, so I have no idea how she got her little toes on the railing...but that's how she was "climbing" up on the rail). We were nowhere near ready for her to be in a bed and did not want to worry about her falling again, so we purchased a safety tent. It worked like a charm. I posted about this here: http://bridgets-light.blogspot.com/2009/04/safety-tent-salvation.html. We never needed one for any of our 4 older children...just Miss Bridget...so who knows, maybe Bennett will need one, too :).
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the new header!!
Our third daughter tried this trick and actually broke her leg! The doctor said it's a fairly common spiral fracture. It happens when the little squirt puts her foot between the slats and then falls. I don't mean to scare you, but I would invest in the tent thingie the pp mentioned.
ReplyDeleteAll of my kids climbed out of their cribs at one time or another and none ever got hurt. Unfortunately a friend once put her 1 year old in (then) Somaya's crib and her daughter climbed out and fell and fractured her leg! I felt so incredibly bad although it really wasn't my fault. I think it was kind of just one of those freak things, since thankfully, LO's are made to be pretty tough when it comes to such things.
ReplyDeleteHopefully your little Harper got scared straight :)
Oh Brooke has tried that one, luckily she didn't get hurt and must have forgot that she can do it because she hasn't tried it since. She will be 3 in November and still in the crib but I also don't want to mess with a good thing. I fear naptime will become nonexistent.
