3-21-11

Today is World Down Syndrome Day!  3-21 represents a third copy of the 21st chromosome {Trisomy 21} or more commonly known as Down syndrome.

I've been blogging for over 2 years now and I hope that by reading you've learned a little something about DS that you may not have known.  But more importantly, I hope you have a different way of thinking about individuals with Down syndrome than you may have had in the past.  I hope that when you see a child, a teenager or an adult with Down syndrome or any person with special needs, you will be a little more open minded to their abilities rather than just seeing their disabilities.

Today we celebrate Bennett and while he may be different in some ways, we hope that others will accept his differences fully and completely and will love him just as he is.  Our boy is worthy, he is loved, he was perfectly created to be in our family.

Thanks for all your support over these last few years!!  And...

WE LOVE YOU BENNETT AND ALL YOUR LITTLE FRIENDS THAT SPORT THAT EXTRA CHROMOSOME!!

  3. I have followed your blog since before Bennet was born, largely because I had fears about having a baby with DS because of my age. Through your blog and others, I learned that I didn't need to worry about being blessed with a child with special needs, I could handle it. My daughter was born with typical chromosomes, but I continue to follow your blog and have learned so much from it. I no longer feel sorry for families with a child with Down Syndrome. Thank you for changing my perspective!

  4. I hope you don't mind, but I'm copying and pasting your first short paragraph about why it is World Down syndrome day for my blog. If you don't want me to, let me know and I'll delete it. My brain is just too overwhelmed to try to explain it on my own.
Bennett is growing so big and so cute!

  5. I have followed your blog from when you first found out about Bennet. I had a friend who was going through the same situation as you were and I found it comforting reading your blog. To be honest it helped me be a better friend to her at a time where she needed me the most. I understood her fears more and her joys as well. Thank you for sharing it does make a difference.
