Our Normal Life

This weekend did not go as planned. Ainsley and I were supposed to go to New York City to the American Girl Doll store for a birthday party but the weather did not want to cooperate. So instead, we went outside and had a normal day...

We shoveled...

...and shoveled.

Every time I looked, Harper was making a snow angel, anywhere and everywhere.

And then we sat and took in the cold air.

We watched the FedEx guy speed down the street and we're impressed he was out and about.

We had fits.

Then we pulled ourselves together and looked for the perfect spot to sled.

And we laughed all the way down.

And then we sat and took in the cold air again.

Bennett slept peacefully through it all.

Can't wait until he can join us, maybe next year.

It was just another day in our normal life. Funny how last year at this time I thought our lives would be anything but normal, due to a certain little someone with an extra chromosome, we had yet to meet. For a short time there, I didn't know if we would laugh again.

Silly me.

  1. I love this! I've been thinking a lot about this lately as I've been soaking in my love and adoration of my boys. I've been thinking about writing a blog entitled, "Don't feel sorry for us, we're the lucky ones"....thanks for this entry - I love it!

  2. I think I'd like to be snuggled in like Bennett. Throughout the first year of Em's life I would always think, What was I doing a year ago, oh yeah, freaking out, having a melt down, crying in disbelief, all that good stuff.
    Silly Me Too!

  3. I really enjoyed your post once again. It is true when you think life will never be normal and life is normal. How far do you live from NYC? I grew up on Long Island and miss it. We go back each year and to NYC. Enjoy your little ones...

  7. Looks like you had lots of fun in the snow! I remember thinking our family would never have any fun after Joel was born too. Nothing could be further from the truth now! I know now that Joel has brought even more joy and laughter into our house than before!

  8. Looks like a wonderful day! Isn't it neat to see how all those fears and anxieties go away after just a short time of feeling completely the opposite?

  9. all those pics make me miss my life in Alaska and Chicago a bit...not for very long though, LOL! Not sure this TX gal and my kids could manage all that snow! I'm with Bennett, a nice cozy snooze is just what I need! Sorry you missed AG though, we have yet to go to a store and my girls are dying to go!

  13. Amen, sister! On that very day, my girls were outside playing. And Violette was in the snow making snow angels! Bennett will be out there next year!

(and if that house is the house across the street from you, you are going to laugh when you see pictures of the house across the street from me - it looks almost exactly like that one, but the garage is on the other side!)
