3.21 World Down Syndrome Day!
3/21….It's World Down Syndrome Day! This sweet boy has been in our lives for almost 7 years now and before that, Down syndrome wasn’t even a thought that crossed our minds. I was clueless when it came to anything special needs, never really had contact with people that had Down syndrome, and honestly never particularly had an interest. So VERY thankful God had plans to change all of that. I can truly say Bennett has changed us for the better. And since the day he was born I’ve made it a point to share that having a child with Down syndrome is not some death sentence or punishment or great burden. At least it hasn’t been for us. It’s not always easy and there are rough times but fortunately Bennett has been healthy {for the most part} and probably our easiest child.
Every child with Down syndrome is different from the next and they grow up to be their own person. They have similar characteristics but they all have different personalities. Bennett can be shy and quiet at first but as he gets to know you, you’ll become his best buddy 😊. 3-21 represents 3 copies of the 21st chromosome, most of us just have 2, Bennett was blessed with 3 😄.
I hope sharing about our lives with Bennett will make you more aware of Down syndrome, more accepting of individuals that were born with it, less afraid to talk or interact with people that have it, and I really hope it encourages you to teach your children to accept other children that have DS and all special needs for that matter. The more they know and the more they are exposed, the more they will accept and include. Thank you as always for all the support we receive from awesome friends and family! We love you and we thank you for loving our Bennett!!
